Two teachers from Meadows Elementary School are headed to NASA Space Camp!

For the fourth year in a row, Meadows Elementary School teachers are heading to NASA Space Camp for Educators. Joanne Michael, the Science Specialist and Meadows, attended basic camp in 2010, and was just selected to attend NASA Advanced Camp, located in Huntsville, Alabama. She will spend some days training in astronaut simulation, then travel to Kennedy Space Center in Florida for more training, including a 6-hour scuba mission to simulate the effects of less gravity in space.

Jenn Simon, one of Meadows' 4th grade teachers, was selected to attend basic camp. She will undergo a week of training at the USSRC (US Space and Rocket Center), located in Huntsville, Alabama. While there, she will do moonwalk simulations, as well as two space missions.

Jenn was selected out of over 2,000 applicants worldwide for one of only 200 positions. Joanne’s application was accepted as one of only 24 from the over 1,000 applicants who had already undergone basic training. Both teachers will come back to Meadows in the fall with extensive math and science lesson plans to use with their students, as well as stories to tell and the experience of a lifetime.

Science continues to be a priority in MBUSD, and we are so proud of these teachers for their commitment to learning and their ability to make science come alive for their students.
