For a second year in a row, Mira Costa High School has been named a California Business for Education Excellence Honor Roll School for 2011 for raising student academic achievement. They will be recognized in local and state media as well as events across the state.

Notice of Board Workshop
The Board of Trustees of the Manhattan Beach Unified School District will hold a workshop on May 9, 2012, 7:30 a.m., at 325 S. Peck Avenue., Manhattan Beach, CA. This workshop is to discuss curriculum issues related to Board Policy and Administrative Regulation 6141, Curriculum Development and Evaluation, and 6141.5, Advanced Placement.

Grand View Elementary Named One of 78 U.S. Green Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education

On Monday, April 23, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced that Grand View Elementary is one of 78 schools across the United States being recognized as a national Green Ribbon School. We are very proud of all Grand View students, staff, and parents for working diligently to transform Grand View into one of the greenest schools in the country. Read the press release here.

Classified Employee Recognition
The following employees were selected as "Classified Employees of the Year" and will be recognized by the Board of Trustees at the June 6, 2012, Board Meeting. Congratulations!
Linda Gesualdi is named the 2012-2013 Manhattan Beach Unified School District Teacher of the Year!

Mira Costa High School Teacher of the Year Linda Gesualdi, a mathematics teacher and co-chairperson of the mathematics department, has been selected as the 2012-2013 MBUSD Teacher of the Year. Linda earned her undergraduate degree at Trinity in Hartford, Connecticut. She loves teaching mathematics and has done so at Mira Costa for twenty-six years.
Bravo to Jane Gervais, the Manhattan Beach Preschool 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year

The 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year for Manhattan Beach Preschool is Jane Gervais.
Jane has taught at the Manhattan Beach Preschool for the last five years in the full day three-year-old class. She brings reliability and organization to her classroom on a daily basis. Jane has an engaging curriculum. Parents are often heard saying that their children have learned more in her room than they thought was possible for a three-year-old.
Eighth Grade science teacher Rebecca Allen has been selected as the Manhattan Beach Middle School Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013

Manhattan Beach Middle School Teacher of the Year Rebecca Allen understands that 21st century students have the whole world available to them. For her, an ideal day in her science classroom makes all of her students ponder why. Her goal as an educator is to bring success to as many students as possible and to instill in her eighth graders a passion for learning and science.
Pennekamp Dragons are proud to announce that Erynne Hart is the Pennekamp Elementary School Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013!

Fourth grade teacher Erynne Hart has been selected as the 2012-2013 Pennekamp Elementary School Teacher of the Year. Erynne completed her undergraduate program at San Diego State University where she earned her degree in Liberal Studies.
Congratulations to Sondra Abrams, Pacific Elementary School's Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013

Pacific Elementary School is proud to announce that the Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013 is Kindergarten teacher Sondra Abrams. Sondra feels strongly that Kindergarten is the gateway to education for all students and parents, so it is particularly important to educate parents about the goals for the Kindergarten year and the progress of their child.
Grand View Elementary School's Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013 is Tanya Sanchez!

Tanya serves as the Science Specialist at Grand View, so she is fortunate to be able to teach all Gator students at the school in her science lab.
Jennifer Simon named Meadows Elementary's Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013

Jennifer Simon is honored to be selected at the Meadows Elementary Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013. Jennifer studied business at California State University Long Beach, but realized that she really wanted to be an educator.
Anne Carlin Named Robinson Elementary's Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013

Second grade teacher Anne Carlin was selected as Robinson Elementary School's Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013. She believes firmly in creating a safe, loving environment for her students. She is a voracious reader who loves to share her love of books with her second graders.
