How Do I Do Scholarly Research?

 1.  PLANNING

2.  RESEARCHING 3.  PRODUCING

Can you take charge of your own learning and become a scholar?

The I-Search project allows you to do just that.  It gives you the opportunity to explore a topic in depth -- a topic of your own choosing -- something about which you are truly passionate.  It let's you take charge of your learning.  You get to decide what you learn, the materials you will use, and how you will demonstrate what you have learned.  You are in the control seat.

As you write your I-Search paper, you will learn how to research,  discover, and create a sophisticated product.  You will take a topic that captures your curiosity and hunt for facts and concepts firsthand.  You will follow the example of scholars and organize your thoughts using the elements of depth & complexity while concurrently recording your process of discovery.  Your research will then become the framework for a web page, a video, an experiment, a book, or some other display of scholarship.

You may work alone or with partners on your I-Search project.

If you work with a partner,  you will have the same product, but each of you will have your own I-Search paper, notes, and graphic organizers.

The first step is to plan your I-Search.
